Hemlock - Poison Parsley

$50.00

Hemlock (Conium spp.) is a highly toxic and infamous plant that belongs to the Apiaceae family. There are several species of hemlock, including the most well-known one, Conium maculatum. Hemlock is native to Europe and North Africa but has been introduced and naturalized in many parts of North America.

Hemlock is a tall plant that produces small, white flowers that are arranged in umbrella-like clusters. The plant's overall appearance can resemble other members of the carrot family and is sometimes mistaken for edible plants like wild parsley or wild carrot, which can be dangerous due to its extreme toxicity.

Hemlock has a sorted history. It was reported by the philosopher Plato that the death of Socrates was attributed to hemlock poisoning.

Hemlock's historical associations with death and mortality have granted it a symbolic link to the concept of crossing boundaries. It represents the idea of willingly traversing the thresholds that separate our physical world from the metaphysical realms.

Merging the tangible and the intangible, the cross-stitched hemlock pendant becomes a talisman of duality and exploration. It embodies the convergence of life and the beyond, inviting wearers to navigate the realms of both nature and the unseen with caution and reverence. As wearers don this pendant, they carry with them a reminder of the intricate weave of existence—one that beckons to be explored while respecting the delicate balance between the earthly and the ethereal.
